What is the Paper 1?

Paper 1 is essentially a case-study based exam that is meant to challenge a student's critical thinking and analytical skills on previously unseen materials. Students must answer 3 to 4 medium questions that are 10 marks each, following that, students will have to answer a single structured question prompt (out of several options) in the format of a 20 mark essay.

For HL Students:

• Students will answer another single question prompt given out of several options, the catch is that these questions will pertain primarily to HL Units and will have to be answered in a 20 mark essay format.

What is the Paper 2?

Paper 2 is an exam with three sections:

• Section A:

  • Students will have to answer one out of two possible sets of questions that are aimed at stimulating a student's ability to analyze both qualitative and quantitative data to form answers to the questions as well as to create a chart from memory.

• Section B:

  • Students must pick from one of three possible questions to answer based off of previously unseen reading material to give them context to form an answer to their chosen question

• Section C:

  • Students must answer one of three possible question prompts in an essay format which provides 20 marks. This essay question will be based on at least 2 major concepts of the entire Business Management course.

Assessment Objectives

By the end of the business management course, students are expected to reach the following assessment objectives.

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

   • the business management tools, techniques and theories specified in the syllabus content

   • the six concepts that underpin the subject

   • real-world business problems, issues and decisions

   • the HL extension topics (HL only).

2. Demonstrate application and analysis of:

   • knowledge and skills to a variety of real-world and fictional business situations

   • business decisions by explaining the issue(s) at stake, selecting and interpreting data, and applying appropriate tools, techniques, theories and concepts

   • the HL extension topics (HL only).

3. Demonstrate synthesis and evaluation of:

   • business strategies and practices, showing evidence of critical thinking

   • business decisions, formulating recommendations

   • the HL extension topics (HL only).

4. Demonstrate a variety of appropriate skills to:

• produce well-structured written material using business terminology

• select and use quantitative and qualitative business tools, techniques and methods select and use business material, from a range of primary and secondary sources.
